Phyllis J. Stimpson, 92, of York, Maine died peacefully on July 18, 2024, at The Haven in Lee, NH surrounded by her two daughters, and family.
She was born in Melrose, Mass to Arthur and Jessie Grant. Her family moved to Oakland, Maine then relocated to York, Maine where they resided. Phyllis graduated from York High School, and worked at the Mills in Dover, and also York Hospital as an aid.
She married her neighbor and love of her life Ronald V. Stimpson after he returned from the Korean War. They took up residence in York, Maine, raised 3 girls, and made York Street Baptist Church their place of worship.
Phyllis was a woman of prayer and loved reading her well-worn Bible, She was known for her date squares, apple squares, and shortbread cookies during holiday gatherings. She made dinner every night and Sunday dinners were a must. Phyllis made blankets, sweaters, and hats for those overseas that needed them. Both Phyllis and Ron were always available to take care of people if they had a need - from a cup of coffee to a trip to Boston for a doctor's appointment, Meals on Wheels, or taking time to visit those who didn’t make it to church that Sunday. She went back to work later in life at Liberty Mutual and retired 20 years later.
Phyllis is predeceased by husband Ronald and daughter Rhonda Wade, sister Janet Kyreages, and brother Dan Grant. She is survived by daughters Kari and husband Jed Russell and Linda and husband Bill Kofoed, 10 grandchildren and 8 3/4 great grandchildren. She leaves behind many more family and friends that she will see again in Heaven.
A celebration of Phyllis’s Life will be held on Thursday, August 8, at York Street Baptist Church at 4 pm.
