Raymond D. Goss Obituary

Raymond Douglas Goss, 78, of Cape Neddick, Maine and Naples, Florida formerly of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Lincoln, New Hampshire died unexpectedly on August 10, 2021 at his home. He was born on June 7, 1943 in Plymouth, New Hampshire a son of the late William Raymond Goss and Hilda Belle (Ingerson) Goss.

Ray was raised in Lincoln, NH and graduated from Lincoln High school before entering into the United States Army. After serving in the Military Ray relocated to Portsmouth, NH where he worked retail at Sawyer Mills and Kings until he found his real passion in the auto industry. Starting out at Seybolt Motors, Chrysler Plymouth and SAEF Lincoln Mercury before becoming a successful local auto dealer with Goss Lincoln-Mercury-Isuzu in Portsmouth, NH and Stratham, NH. He successfully ran his dealerships with his two sons for over 28 years retiring in 2002. Upon retirement Ray enjoyed his daily golf while spending summers in Cape Neddick, ME and winters in Naples, FL. Ray received many accolades in his business and lauded in the community for his many charitable associations, team sponsorships, etc. Ray served as president of the Portsmouth auto dealers association, was director of Olde Port bank and was a member of many local clubs and organizations. One of the favorite times of Rays life was his affiliation with the Boston Red Sox during the late 70's, 80's and 90's. Ray made so many lasting impressions on many people.

Raymond is survived by the love of his life for 35 years Jeanne Goss of Cape Neddick, ME., his four children, R. Craig Goss and his wife Maria of Eliot, ME, Michelle Goss of San Diego, CA, Jeffrey Goss of Portsmouth, NH. and Heather Goss and her wife Susan of Palm Beach, FL., his grandchildren Carly Goss, Isobel Goss, Keegan Goss and Brody Taber. His siblings Margorie Salem of Portsmouth, NH, Aletha Lewis of Bristol, NH and Vivian Lessard and her husband David of Syracuse, NY., and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his faithful four legged friend JR.

Rays wit and outgoing personality made him loved by all.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7pm on Thursday, August 19th in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 20th from 12:30-4:00pm in the Portsmouth Elks,  500 Jones Ave., Portsmouth, NH.

Memorial contributions in Ray's name may be made to Hospice of York, ME or  NHSPCA of Stratham, NH.
