Robert A. Perkins Obituary

Robert "Bob" A. Perkins, 85, a legendary character of Ogunquit and Wells, Maine, passed away February 21, 2019.  Bob died peacefully at York Hospital surrounded by loved ones including his furry companion Zeek.  Bob was born July 15, 1933 in Fitchburg, MA a son of the late Carl and Florence Perkins of Scotch Hill Inn, Ogunquit ME.  Bob would spend his childhood years between town residency's.  One in Fitchburg, Mass. (Where his father was a teacher), the other was Scotch Hill Inn (his Perkins Family Homestead).Throughout high school, Bob  would work alongside his best friend Bruce Martin as an Ogunquit Beach lifeguard.  After Bob graduated high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.  Bob would become a meteorologist and would work on one of the first "state of the art" weather planes during the Korean War.  Bob would perform daily flights beyond enemy lines to determine safe weather patterns for enemy missions.  After Bob's honorable discharge from the Air Force, he would return to Ogunquit, Maine.  It was in Ogunquit where he would discover his one and only love, Patricia Miller of Schenectady, NY.  The two would marry September 15, 1956 and would move to Old Town, Maine while Bob attended the University of Maine.  Bob Perkins received his Masters in Teaching. Bob and Pat would spend their years together in Connecticut, New York, and back to Maine.  Both Bob and his wife Pat felt their hearts were in Ogunquit.  During these years , they raised four children, Rob, Betsy, Chris and Sarah. Bob was also well know though out the community of Ogunquit and Wells Maine.  A natural historian, Bob would share his stories of Ogunquit and the founding families within the area.  Bob would also participate in the Ogunquit Historical Society and assist the building of a Dory which was a re-creation of his great-great grandfather William H. Perkins I.  Bob would also pursue the access to wheelchair availability for the disabled to use on Marginal Way. Bob's wit along with his dry New England humor was famous within the area.  His love of family and friends was unconditional.  Even though Bob Perkins was "from away" he will always be a true Mainah!

Bob was predeceased by his wife Patricia A. (Miller) Perkins in 1998; brothers Carl and Bill Perkins; his oldest son Rob Perkins;  2 nephews Carl (Sandy) and John Perkins; and his best friend Bruce Martin.  He is survived by his oldest daughter Betsy Perkins Fleming and husband Dan Fleming,  youngest son Chris Perkins and wife Pat Clay Perkins, youngest daughter Sarah Perkins; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grand children; 4 nephews, 1 niece and his furry companion Zeek.
