Robert (Bob) Price of York, Maine passed away on Sunday, November 10 after 93 fun-filled
years. Born in Medford, MA on July 29, 1931, he met his wife, Babe, at Medford High School
where they were both members of the class of 1949. He was the fourth child in a family of five
children including Warren, Helen, Bette and Marilyn. He was a high school and college athlete
who played on the 1947 Gator Bowl football team and was inducted into the Medford High
School Hall of Fame. He did a post graduate year at Vermont Academy and played hockey
there and at Dartmouth College. He started his career in sales at Anchor Hocking in Lancaster,
OH, after a two-year stint in the Army at Fort Carson, Colorado, and eventually settled in Darien,
CT where he and Babe raised their three children and two dogs, and he developed a passion
for tennis. He was President of Darien Youth Hockey and coached, and even played in a hockey
league, with his two sons. In 1993, Bob and Babe retired to York, Maine near their favorite
Moody Beach vacation spot and their favorite place to have a drink with a view, Barnacle Billy’s.
They joined the York Golf & Tennis Club where Bob was an avid tennis player playing tennis
there in the summers and at the Great Bay Athletic Club in the winters right into his 90’s.
Bob will be best remembered and missed for his sense of humor and quick wit that attracted an
equally fun group of friends. Whether through school, work, sports, or neighborhood proximity,
he made lifelong friends all along the way. Annual summer vacations at Moody beach were
spent with his closest crew: high school friend, John Cahill, and college friends, Fred Fedeli and
Byron Menides and their families. Thanksgivings and Christmases and many more occasions
were spent with dear Darien friends Ed and Chickie Turner and their family who became real
family. He shared many laughs, misadventures, trips, tailgates and vodka on the rocks with
Whitey Hamilton, Jack Gibbons, Jack O’Keefe, and Harry Susla, and so many more wonderful
people who shared his gift for enjoying a good time.
Bob is survived by his wife Alice (Babe), and his children Lynne & her husband, Pete
Montesanto, Bob and his wife Daryl, and John. He also has four loving grandchildren, Whitney
Montesanto Miles (and her husband, Devon), Jack Montesanto, Nick and Sydney Price, and a
great grandson, Jack Miles. He is also survived by Babe’s sisters, Margorie Sasso and Patricia
Schreunder (and her husband Mike Schruender), and by her brother, Jack Meagher, as well as
numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
A private family mass is planned.
