Robert F. Crowell (Bob) died at Maine Medical Cardiac Center on February 3, 2026, following a brief illness. Bob's family was with him and he peacefully slipped away. We take comfort that he is now reunited with his twin brother and his parents.
Bob and his identical twin brother Billy were born in Lynn, MA December 22,1953 to Bill and Priscilla Crowell. They grew up in Peabody, Mass, and spent summers at Asbury Grove Campground in Hamilton, Mass, where he excelled at spectacular dives from the swimming pool high board. Bob maintained strong ties to Asbury Grove, and visited often during the summers.
Bob loved motors, specifically motorcycles. At the age of 18 he announced he was buying a motorcycle. His mother set the ground rule that he could only buy a motorcycle if he also bought life insurance (thinking it might deter him if he knew it was risky) It is safe to say that Bob was not deterred and since age 18 has never been without a motorcycle. He leaves behind numerous street motorcycles, several 4- wheelers and a vintage Honda Dream which he was restoring in his living room. Bob looked forward to Bike Week in Laconia and leaves behind a large collection of Bike Week souvenir shirts from his yearly pilgrimage.
Bob was always physically active. He played defense for the Snakes hockey team in the Men's No-Check League in Danvers, MA. He also thoroughly enjoyed dirt-biking and had many adventures, one of which earned him the nickname Evil Knievel. Bob was part of a great group of friends who played hockey, rode street bikes, fly fished the Miramichi in Canada, and took annual off-road trips to Monson Maine. One summer they designed and built a 10-man bike using an old VW chassis and entered it in the Danvers, MA Land and Sea Race.
Bob designed and built his own home in York, Maine with the help of a neighbor. After the house was done, he turned his attention to the outside, building beautiful stone walls. He became well-known for his walls, and often had people wanting to hire him to build one for them.
Bob was a 4th generation plumber for Guy Hall & Son, but after marriage, children and a home, he changed his employment to construction of the Ocean House at York Beach, and later stayed on, becoming the building manager at the Ocean House for many years. Bob worked for Tim Donnell Plumbing at the end of his working career, but in retirement was always willing to lend a hand and just recently finished rehabbing a bathroom at his daughter's home.
Bob was a founding member of the York Fish and Game club and enjoyed being part of the Great Outdoors. He strongly believed in the outdoor sports and being a responsible sportsman. He was always willing to help out, doing whatever was needed. He was apart of the annual Fishing Derby, the Hunter Safety courses, and spent countless hours working on the grounds of the F&G Club.
Bob was a frequent flyer at the Rough all season long, dropping by to cheer on the bocce team his family played on, the horseshoe team his son played on, and enjoying the live bands. Bob enjoyed music very much, and a good day for him would be cruising along York Beach and the coastal back roads in his ’66 Mustang convertible. Bob married Beth Briley in 1976, and although they divorced in 2007, remained good, strong friends.
He leaves behind his ex-wife Beth, daughter Lindsay, son Casey and his wife Tracy, and grandson Jimmy, who he adored beyond belief, and who shall inherit Bob’s goldfish, Phillip. Bob also leaves two sisters, Gail Holland and husband Ed from Akron, Ohio and Susan Moniz and husband Dan from Hamilton, MA, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his twin brother William (Billy).
Visiting hours will be held at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home on Friday, February 13th from 5-8 pm, with a Celebration of Life to be held at The Rough in York in the summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the York Fish & Game Association, PO Box 514, York, Maine, in Bob's memory.
