Robert Blanchette, 88, died Tuesday January 2nd in the comfort of his home with his family by his side.
Born and proudly educated in Lawrence, Bob/Bambi/Red and always “Sarge” worked in the Lawrence police department for 38 years retiring in 2000 as a Sargent.
Bob enjoyed sports, puttering around the house, exercising, and back in the day, was an avid runner, once running up Mt. Washington in a race. He loved meeting up with his buddies for breakfast and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events all over New England.
Bob loved living at York Beach, in his and his late wife Mary Jane’s self-built vacation home. He especially loved going out for ice cream with the family, while always taking the check.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane Blanchette; parents Frances and Joseph Blanchette; brother Jim Blanchette.
He is survived by his sons, Albert and his wife Anne of Methuen, MA, Brian and his wife Sue of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and David and his wife Tracy of Methuen, MA. His daughter Christine Gillis and husband Ronald of Freeport, ME.; 9 grandchildren, Jackie and Bobby, Erin, Ryan and Christopher, Jordan and Nathan, Ronnie and Mikaela. 2 great grandchildren Raegan and Olivia.
The family would like to thank the team at Beacon Hospice for the tender care that they provided this past year, especially Christine Brown and Pam Marchi.
