Roger R. Stirk Obituary

Roger Raymond Stirk was born on May 9, 1947 to Beatrice and Robert Stirk of Northborough, Massachusetts. Roger attended Worcester Tech graduating from the culinary art program in 1967.

After high school, Roger enlisted into the Navy, where he was stationed in Vietnam as a cook with the marines. After returning home, Roger taught culinary arts at the school that he graduated from, WTI. Soon after that, he opened his own restaurant, The Village Kitchen, in his hometown of Northborough. The restaurant was right next to the Northborough fire department, where he was also a volunteer fireman, following in his father‘s footsteps.

In 1980 Roger married Ann Louise Chisholm, and adopted her daughter Tammy. Ann and Roger had two sons while living in Massachusetts, Ben and Scott. The family moved to York, Maine in 1987, which became their forever home. Roger was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a chef at the Officers Club and later at the Dockside retiring from the Shipyard in 2012 because of his health issues due to Agent Orange.

Monday night dinners, that started years ago at Rick‘s Bluejay Café became a family ritual which we continue at all of the local restaurants. Roger loved his gardening and his birdfeeders and most of all, he loved his family. He lived to cook and bake for our family gatherings. Around Thanksgiving, he and his family would spend hours preparing for the festival of trees and his veterans tree. Having people to sign Christmas cards for the veterans, over 2000 each year, then getting them to the veterans by Christmas.

Proceeded in death were Roger‘s parents, Bea & Bob Stirk and 3 brothers David, Gregory and Stephen. Also his mother and father-in-law Barbara and Bill Chisholm. Roger leaves behind his wife, Ann and children Tammy Ramsey of York, Ben Stirk of York and Scott Stirk and his wife Allyce of New Zealand, as well as 6 grandchildren. Tammy’s 3 sons Nick Ramsey, and wife Chelsie Ramsey and his unborn great granddaughter, Shawn Ramsey, and wife Kelly Ramsey, Keith Ramsey and girlfriend Alyssa Wheeler, Scott and Allyce’s 3 children Olivia Allsop, Sydney and Ryker Stirk of New Zealand. He also leaves behind many Stirk, Chisholm & Demers nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
