Shirley L. (Schools) Veno

Shirley L. Veno, 84, of York Beach, Maine, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley’s beautiful life will forever be cherished by her husband, of 61 years, Joseph Veno, her son Henry Veno (Lisa Veno) of Groveland, Mass, her daughter Karyn Palmer (John Palmer) of York Beach, Maine, and her son Keith Veno (Tom Hafner) of York Beach, Maine. She is predeceased in death by her daughter, Sharyn Veno. She will be missed dearly by her grandchildren whom she adored, Bryan and Kevin Veno of Groveland, Mass, Colin and Erin Palmer of York Beach, Maine, Melissa Biondo of Waltham, Mass and her great-granddaughter Kelise Biondo of Waltham, Mass. Shirley also leaves her dear sisters, Marsha Vahey of Wellesley, Mass and Gail Torrens of Tampa, Florida and her late brother Ronnie Schools of Florida, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws

Shirley grew up in Waltham, Mass and was the daughter of Francis and Mildred Schools. She was a graduate of Waltham High School in Waltham, Mass, and a graduate of Lasell Jr College in Newton, Mass. Shirley worked in the Treasurer’s Office at the Waltham City Hall for many, many years.

Shirley and her family summered in York Beach, Maine every year, which eventually brought her to retire to her happy place. She was known to many as the York Beach Walker, as she never missed a day of walking along Long Sands Beach, 365 days a year, any type of weather! She was an active parishioner of St. Christopher’s Church in York, and volunteered for the yearly church bazaar, the plays, and helping hands, and wherever else the church needed help.

Shirley was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a wonderful Nana, and a beloved friend to all that knew her. She will be forever loved and missed………
