Susan G. Blowney – 1926 to 2019
Susan Gertrude Blowney died on 1 December 2019 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her parents, Gertrude S. (Austin) and Walter E. Blowney, and her brother, John S. Blowney. She is survived by her nieces Karen A. Hart, Janet S. Blowney, Cynthia J. Frattura, and Martha J. Blowney.
Susan G. Blowney was born on 5 May 1926 in Schenectady, New York. She was a 1944 graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady, New York, and a 1948 graduate (Bachelor of Arts degree) of Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Following graduation, she worked at Carnegie Institution of Washington, Cold Spring Harbor, New York, and at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, New York City. Susan became very interested in the Episcopal Church and joined The Sisters of The Holy Nativity (SHN) of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, in 1950. She did mission work in New York City connected with the church of St. Mary the Virgin. Upon leaving the sisterhood in the mid-sixties, Susan moved to Michigan, living first in Three Rivers, and later in Kalamazoo. She was a long-time resident of Friendship Village in Kalamazoo.
She will be interred at First Parish Cemetery in York, Maine. Services will be private.
