Therese C. (Loughman) Forrest

KITTERY – Therese Forrest passed away on the morning of December 14, 2021, at Durgin Pines, where she lived a full and happy life for the last thirteen years.

Therese was born to Clement and Anne Loughman on December 24, 1927, in Jamaica Plain, MA., where she was the eighth of nine children. Therese’s sense of family blossomed there as a devoted and loving sister.

Therese met her husband Clinton Alfred Forrest while he was a student at Tufts University in Boston. They were married in 1951 in Kansas City, MO., and had their first child, Clinton Eastman in 1952.  Son Kenneth Charles followed in 1953, in Waterbury, CT., before a final move to Andover MA., where daughter Candace Edith was born in 1957. A dedicated mother and homemaker, Therese raised her children there—with many years of unforgettable family memories at Moose Pond in Denmark, Maine.

Shortly after her husband’s death in 1980, Therese moved to York to be closer to her sons. She began a twenty-year retail career at various shops in York and Kittery. Always stylish, Therese’s final job was as the clothing manager at Shelton’s in York Beach. She was 77 years old.

In 2004, Therese’s debilitating stroke changed the course of her life forever, but never altered her love of family and friends. Present at birthdays, weddings, graduations, and holiday gatherings, you could always find “Nana” with her sunglasses on, dressed to the nines, enjoying a Coors Light while chatting with loved ones. Therese brought her own sense of beauty, humor, and grace to each occasion, and she will be deeply missed by all of us.

Therese’s family will forever be grateful for the care and friendship she received while a resident at Durgin Pines; she considered the compassionate and loving staff her extended family. Mentally sharp, Therese was a formidable presence at the Bingo table, enjoying so many of the activities, celebrations, and countless group outings.  

Therese was predeceased by her husband Clinton, her Loughman siblings, and her dear son Kenneth in March of 2020. She is survived by her son Clinton E. Forrest and wife Grace of York; daughter Candace Forrest Jaffe and husband Rick of York; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Therese loved every update and photo of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was thrilled to hold her newest great-grandchild, 8-week-old Jonah, in November.

The family will hold a private celebration of life.
