Cape Neddick, ME - Thomas S Fox, 80, passed peacefully at his home on October 23rd 2022. Tom was born in Greensburg PA on September 12th 1942 in his family’s home to Kathryn (Ross) and Fredrick Ivan Fox. After graduating from Greensburg-Salem High School he joined the United States Air Force, specializing in heavy ground radar. He was stationed in England where he met his wife of 59 years, Marlene “Molly” (Hartley) Fox. He climbed the ladder in his chosen field becoming a Field Service Engineer working on Electron Microscopes. He retired from JEOL, USA laboratories in 2002. Throughout his life he moved many times, residing in PA, England, NC, FL, OH, VT & finally to ME.
Over the course of his life, he was a Boy Scout pack leader, while living in Vermont he participated in Cursillo, played the Bass Guitar for his church folk group, and upon moving to Maine he was an outdoor safety instructor for York Fish and Game Association, drove the York Hospital Transportation Van, and volunteered at Heart Health at Long Sands. He was also known by many as “Santa”, he portrayed Santa in four states over a span of 40+ years, most notedly in Maine, were he participated in York’s Christmas season by reading “The Night Before Christmas” for Eliot Library, rode the sleigh in the York Festival of Lights parade, officiated the Breakfast With Santa at York Hospital, and with York Police Department and Choir when they visited the elderly, and was Santa for Christmas in July.
He is survived by wife Marlene “Molly” Fox, his sister Kay (Fox) Frye and husband Bob Frye, twin brother Richard Fox and wife Barb Fox, and brother Frederick Fox. His three children Karan L. (Fox) Bland and husband Robert E. Bland, Thomas C. Fox, and Joseph S. Fox and partner Cherie A. Blaisdell, as well as, six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held from 3 to 5pm on Sunday, October 30th in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., York, Maine.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will take place Monday, October 31st, at 1:00 pm in the First Parish Cemetery, 180 York Street, York, Maine.
