Obituary

Rye, NH-Todd Dean Spelman, 41 passed away on Friday, February 10th, 2023.

He  was born December 15, 1981 in Exeter, NH. Todd had a love for family,
our country, and life that will forever go unmatched. Growing up in York, you could find Todd
on the tennis courts at the York Golf & Tennis Club, playing on the town traveling soccer team,
pitching for the Little League all-star teams, and posting up on the basketball courts. Todd was
a high school honor student and all-star athlete who won the state singles tennis championship
his sophomore year, the youngest person to win the states. He was a member of the state
championship basketball team and state tennis championship team, eventually being inducted
into the York High School Hall of Fame. He took part in community service trips through the
church and loved spending time with his friends. He loved family trips with his parents, Mel
and Marcia, and his sister, Kelly. They would spend hours playing any sport presented, typically
coached by Mel and cheered by Marcia, and traveling all over. Todd was a devoted son and
brother.

Todd went on to play tennis at St. Michael’s College, graduating cum laude with a
Business degree. It was at St. Michael’s that Todd met the love of his life and he would proudly
share this sentiment with everyone. Todd and Joanna (Jojo) knew immediately that they
wanted to spend their life together and were married shortly after they reconnected a few
years after graduating. They wasted no time in making memories that all of us would be
fortunate to have. They loved traveling, concerts, and the beach. They knew their greatest
desire was to have a family and they were blessed with three amazing children, Noah, Will, and
Savannah. Anyone who met Todd knew about these kids because he spoke of them every
chance he had, with great enthusiasm and love. Todd coached every team on which they
played, joining the Rye Little League board, and making sure he was there for every game,
practice, and event. You could find Todd tossing a ball from early morning to late night,
shooting hoops in their driveway well after dark, and night swimming with the kids any chance
he had. There was no greater joy for Todd than spending time with this family, whether it was
playing, surfing, skiing, or sitting on the couch for family movie night. He loved being right next
to his Jojo, snuggling with Savannah before bed, and teaching Noah and Will how to perfect a
foul shot. He will forever be known as the “neighborhood President”, a friend who was always
willing to help, and a truly great man who loved his entire family with a fire that will never be
extinguished.

Todd leaves behind his wife, Joanna Spelman of Rye, NH, his children, Noah, Will,
and Savannah, his parents, Mel & Marcia Spelman of York, Maine, his sister, Kelly Spelman of
