Cape Neddick, Maine-Roger Finch 82, passed away Friday, October 4, 2019 in York Hospital.
Roger was born April 17, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of Willard G. and Phyllis I. (Creek) Finch. He is survived by his spouse, Louis M. Hargan of Cape Neddick, ME; his sisters, Merlyn Collings of Brevard, N.C. and Darlene Wright of Leicester, N.C.
Roger graduated from George Washington University with a B.A. majoring in music and Harvard University with a PhD in linguistics. After graduating from Harvard he was offered a position in Tokyo, Japan, writing text books for Japanese learning English. He then started teaching a Sophia University and Waseda University in Tokyo. He then accepted a tenured position at Surugadai University in Hanno, near Tokyo. Upon his retirement he came back to Cape Neddick and loved creating his garden.
He has four published books of poetry as well as in many poetry collections and was named Senior Poet Laureate of Maine. He was a member of the Permanent International Altaistic Conference (PIAC), attending conferences at various cities around the world and contributing many scholarly articles.
