William Pratt Obituary

William (Bill) Winslow Pratt passed away suddenly on August 19th at home at the age of 59. He was born in York, ME on April 6th, 1962, the first-born son of Robert (Bob) Pratt and Jane Suitor Pratt of York, ME.

Billy grew up in York with many friends. His kind heart and gentle soul made it easy to befriend him and enjoy time riding bikes, ice skating, water skiing, snow skiing, boating, fishing, swimming, golfing and so many other group activities. As he matured, he also found pride in the time spent and results of rebuilding his antique truck. Oh, and yes, Billy loved a good fun-filled party. He was always the life of the party with an amazing sense of humor and love for anyone near him, especially the ladies. His love for women of all ages, shapes, and sizes was evident..... he admired them all J. Bill moved to California for a while after graduating from York High School in 1980 to stay with family and begin his adult life. In his mid-twenties, he moved back to York. In November of 1998, his world changed forever with the birth of his one and only son, William R. W. Pratt (Will). His life revolved around Will. He was an involved and loving father. He was so proud of the loving, caring, funny, thoughtful, and hardworking young man Will had become.

Bill tragically lost his father in March of 1971 and just recently lost his mother on June 3rd, 2021. He was a devoted son and would do anything for his family. He was also an amazing friend to so many here in southern Maine, in California, and all over the country. Bill successfully completed the Outward Bound program in his late teens and began working for “Post and Beam” in his early to mid-twenties. He became an accomplished carpenter and a general contractor. He has built numerous homes for many thankful families in and around York County. Bill finally built his own dream home and a dwelling for his mother on Hemlock Avenue in 2011. I’m sure he is proud to have been able to leave Will with such a lovely set-up.

Bill is survived by his son William Pratt, his siblings Penelope (Penny) Pratt Hogan, and James (Jim) Pratt, and three half-sisters, Susan Pratt Smith, Vallana Winslow Pratt, and Holly R. (Pratt) Connelly, six nieces and nephews, Dylan Pratt, Matthew Pratt, Parker Hogan, Augustus (Gus) Hogan, Devon Smith, and Emily Connelly. One beloved Aunt, Linda Suitor Davis, and many cousins who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his parents listed above and Aunt Lois Suitor Berger and Uncle William “Bill” Suitor.

A private graveside service will be held in September and a celebration of life will take place during the summer of 2022 (TBD due to COVID concerns)
