Valerien Bernard

April 4, 1925 ~ March 21, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

 

 Valerien “Val” Bernard, 91, of Cape Neddick, ME, and formerly of Avon, CT, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2017. He was born on April 4, 1925 in Saint Victor, PQ, Canada the eldest son of the late Rosaire and Yvonne Bernard, he moved to Connecticut from Canada in 1953. A hard working dedicated family man he especially appreciated his grandchildren and watching them grow. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Therese “Rancourt” Bernard and his two children Kathleen Bernard of Boston, MA; Rene Bernard and wife Kari of Newburyport, MA; five grandchildren, Lainey Battiston of New York City; Brant Battiston of Boston, MA and Cole Battiston of Granby, CT; Ella and Molly Bernard of Newburyport, MA; He also leaves brothers Guy Bernard and wife Rita of Newington, CT; Florian Bernard and wife Lizette of Longueil, PQ, Canada, sister Anita Tardiff of West Hartford, CT: Sister In-law, Rolande Rancourt of Montreal Canada. He was predeceased by two brothers Raymond and Sister in law Geraldine Bernard of Saint Victor, PQ, Canada; Yvon Bernard and Sister Annina Bernard of Saint Victor, PQ, Canada. He leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews, grand nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank the staff of Sentry Hill in York Harbor, ME and York Hospital in York, ME for their dedicated care and compassion. Valerien should be remembered as a gentleman of true character, with strong family bonds, he genuinely took interest in people he encountered in his business and social life, always putting others before himself. Valerien can be described as a successful entrepreneur. He founded numerous businesses including Partitions Inc. in 1966 which he led until his retirement in 1986. He was a real estate investor/developer, an avid horseman, woodsman, and voracious reader, eager to discuss current events, history, the financial markets or politics. He gave back to the communities in which he lived through The Richelieu Club, Rotary, Meals on Wheels and many other causes. A formidable and compelling man, his spirit, drive, determination and smile will endure with those who were fortunate to have known him. May we carry on his legacy. He will be laid to rest in Saint Victor, PQ, Canada.

The funeral Mass for Val will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 27th in Saint-Victor, P.Q., Canada.
